About AMBeR

AMBeR brings together Australia’s unique resources for population-based genetic epidemiology with high level expertise in statistical science to:

  1. train young Australians in bioinformatics and advanced biostatistics;
  2. develop new research capacity and competitiveness in cutting-edge techniques;
  3. bring these to bear on important medical research problems in the genetics of complex human disease;
  4. transfer this expertise to the research community.

Australia is well placed to take a leadership position in human genome epidemiology (HuGE) internationally due to the outstanding and unique human research resources that have already been collected.

A current critical challenge for Australian bioscience is to provide the biostatistical and bioinformatics infrastructure necessary to fully utilize and develop extant population resources into internationally competitive research projects.

The overall goal for AMBeR is national capacity building in medical bioinformatics and statistical genomics. Our primary focus is developing integrated training programs and career development in genetic epidemiology, statistical genomics, and bioinformatics.

AMBeR Fellowships

AMBeR is funded with 8 Fellowships nationwide to enhance the national capacity to:

  • undertake advanced methodological research
  • design, develop and distribute software tools and resources
  • apply our new methods and tools to specific disease research
  • develop human genome epidemiology (HuGE) enterprise in Australia through collaboration with medical experts and experts in academia and industry.

AMBeR was funded by the Medical Bioinformatics, Genomics and Proteomics Program of the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council.
